 INTENT

At Shelley Primary School we want pupils to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding that support them towards becoming educated citizens. This means we introduce them to the best that has been thought, said, created and achieved. It also means that they are beginning to understand and make sense of themselves and their relationships with others and the world around them. Alongside learners and carers, it is our shared responsibility to prepare pupils for their future.

We achieve this through:

  • The design and delivery of an exciting broad and balanced curriculum
  • Tailoring our curriculum to the specific needs of children in our locality
  • Holding in mind our values of aspiration, respect and togetherness
  • Ensuring that all children are included

IMPLEMENTATION

The Shelley Curriculum is delivered through learning journeys. These link together areas of learning around a common theme, ensuring learning is cohesive, purposeful and challenging.

Learning journeys may include: mathematical understanding; written and oral communication; the creative arts; humanities; computing and technology; science; physical education and ‘Our Lives in this World.’ At times, some subjects are taught discretely where appropriate.

‘Our Lives in this World’ draws together the many inter-related strands of children’s personal, social, moral, spiritual, religious, citizenship and health education that enables them to grow as confident, caring, mindful and enquiring individuals.

Throughout their time at Shelley Primary, we teach pupils an agreed set of learning behaviours which we believe contribute to success. These learning behaviours are resilience, independence, curiosity, focus and co-operation (RIC FC).

We recognise the value of learning beyond the classroom and make best use of our school site, both indoors and out, and our local and wider community.

IMPACT

The impact of the Shelley Curriculum is evident through the:

  • Enjoyment that all pupils experience and comment on through their learning
  • Enthusiasm that pupils bring to their learning
  • Belief in our school values
  • Development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding of our pupils
  • Feedback from our school community
